Are you looking for a great activity to do with your children to celebrate Australia Day
this year? This egg carton crocodile is a creative way to celebrate Australia and all of its remarkable and native animals that roam this wonderful country. This activity is also a great way to introduce to your children the benefits about recycling and reusing.
What you will need:
- 2 eyes
- 3 egg cartons
- Craft glue
- Green paint
- Paint brushes
- Light weight cardboard
- Masking Tape
- 1 small bulldog clip
Step 1 – Open the egg carton and cut the lid off. Cut the connecting flap off the base of the egg carton but keep it as you will need to use it later.
Step 2 – Glue the base of the egg carton (bottom facing up) to the top of another egg carton. Make sure the top egg carton is sitting one row back from the bottom egg carton.
Step 3 – Cut the top of the first egg carton into triangles (see picture below) and place them inside the top of the egg carton (as shown). Simply glue them into place. Then secure them with a bull dog clip until it dries.
Step 4 – Glue the tail onto the back part of the carton. Use masking tape to keep it firmly positioned until the glue dries.
Step 5 – Using the third carton, remove the connecting flap. Cut into 3 square segments of 4 egg holders (see picture below). There should be one peak in the middle of 4 egg holders. Cut the connecting flap in half and glue it to the edge of the lid to complete the sides.
Step 6 – Using the remaining egg carton, cut two egg holders off to use as the eyes. Glue to the top of the lid of the 4 piece egg holder.
Step 7 – Use the remaining peaks and glue them to the tail. These are the crocodile’s spines.
Step 8 – Now it’s time to paint your crocodile green and glue its eyes on. Cut some teeth out of white paper using a zig-zag motion and glue them to the underside of the crocodile’s mouth. Wait for the glue to dry and then you’re done.
This creative crocodile is a great activity for Australia day. You can sit it on top or store it in one of Mocka’s Wooden Toy Boxes
that feature two of Australia’s most renowned animals, the crocodile and the kangaroo.
Happy Australia Day!
